As of late, a lot of electronic music has started to sound the same. In response, there has been a call for artists to stand out from the quagmire of lackluster productions. Hailing from London comes a classically trained producer by the name of Tourist who has carved out a niche in the deeper complex sounds of the UK electronic music scene. Tourist fluidly blends layers of slow ethereal synths and emotive vocal samples over  rhythmic percussion to create musically complex tracks that are liquid gold for the ears.
Tourist is definitely an artist to watch for the new year, he has recently been featured on NPR and on his last jaunt in the US was able to delight listeners at HARD Day Of The Dead alongside fellow UK artists Maya Jane Coles and Dusky. Tourist recently signed onto Disclosure’s label, Method, to release his upcoming EP, Patterns, set to release in early 2014.
Tourist is now on a return tour of the US to play three small shows in New York, Miami and Los Angeles. If you love the deeper chill sounds of the underground, Tourist is not to be missed:
12/5 – Brooklyn, NY @ Rough Trade (tix HERE)
12/6 – Miami, FL @ Grand Central (No Sale/RSVP Only)
12/7- Los Angeles, CA @ The Lyric Theater (tix HERE)
Here’s a preview of what to expect from Tourist live. Check out Tourist’s remixes of tracks by Indie artists CHVRCHES, Haim and Sam Smith, all of which have charted to #1 on Hype Machine.
For those of you planning to come to my Brooklyn show this evening – the venue has changed! It’ll now be at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg. All tickets will be honoured. See you later!
