Ever since Spotify set a limit on the number of tracks a Spotify user could have in their library in 2014, there have been endless complaints regarding the limitation. On the surface level, 10,000 may seem like a huge amount. However, if you take into account the length of time a user will be using their Spotify account along with the endless amount of music that has already been put out, 10,000 songs only barely scrape the surface of the vast amount of pre-existing music as well as music that has yet to come.
In response to library expansion requests, Spotify stated in 2017, “At the moment we don’t have plans to extend the Your Music limit. The reason is because less than 1% of users reach it.” When users had hit the 10,000 track limit, they’d receive a notification stating: “Epic collection my friend. There’s no more room in Your Library. To save more, you’ll need to remove some songs or albums.”
Now, Spotify is taking away the limit and encouraging users to save and download music. Spotify users no longer have to compromise on what music to save and what music to delete in order to make space.
