While the coronavirus is continuing to spread, cancellations of major events and shows are happening left and right. Event cancellations have become a normal part of life at the moment.
With this in mind, Ibiza has been taking a hit across the board with the postponement of major events and shows, but there is hope with extending the tourist season. Even the iconic International Music Summit this summer in Ibiza has been cancelled. According to reports, Ibiza is hoping to move its tourist season to later in the year as a result of COVID-19.
Ibiza has a massive influx of tourist each year, which has a large impact on their economy. From January to September 2019, more than 3.54 million visitors came to Ibiza by air, representing a slight year-on-year increase (0.61%) compared to the same period in 2018. A new movement has started in Ibiza called #moveyourspring. According to Diario de Ibiza, the organizers of the movement said:
“Let’s look for the union so that Ibiza becomes the chosen destination to celebrate the end of this bad dream…We want to make Ibiza the ideal destination to celebrate life. We are a pioneer destination in the tourism sector and this is a great opportunity to record it and demonstrate it again for one more season.”
“In Ibiza Autumn is The New Spring”. Let’s hope the devastation of the coronavirus doesn’t have too much of an impact on the nightlife in Ibiza. Unfortunately, only time will tell. Autumn in Ibiza doesn’t sound too bad after all.
