Zedd takes to Twitter to cancel his upcoming February 1st show at Opera Atlanta. This comes in light of the disturbing incident that took place on the nightclub’s dance floor, January 19th, where a woman live-streamed her own apparent rape. Opera has since been under public scrutiny for the lack of aid from staff, and an official investigation is now being conducted by Atlanta Police.
The woman, by the name of Jasmine Eiland, can be heard screaming for help countless times in a video that has since been taken off of Facebook due to graphic content. As the stream went on, Eiland pleaded the perpetrator to stop. She would later post the following day that she was okay and have asked friends to refrain from contacting her. Eiland has since addressed the issue in a live-stream Monday morning, reassuring everyone that she, “will be alright.”
Falling on Super Bowl weekend with Atlanta being the host city, Zedd’s performance would have been a time of great celebration and festivities. Although Zedd did not directly touch on the topic, many are supportive of his decision in view of the current situation. As we stand behind this stance, our heart is with the victim hoping she can pull through this tough period.
Hey guys.
I’m sorry I will no longer be performing at Opera Atlanta on February 1st. I’m looking forward to coming back to Atlanta ASAP.— Zedd (@Zedd) January 21, 2019
