Florida is known for its predominant EDM scene in Miami of course, but Tampa has its own burgeoning scene as well. Sadly, the city is now reeling after it suffered a major loss on the night of April 6th, when one of its most famous night clubs caught ablaze. Ybor City’s Amphitheater has been the go to spot for EDM lovers since its doors first opened. The Amp’s been a definite stop on most dance music’s tours through the state, hosting unforgettable performances over the years from the likes of Dash Berlin, Eric Prydz, and Armin Van Buuren.
Officials suspect that a welding torch may have sparked the initial fire Wednesday night, when workers were attempting to relocate the Amp’s signature disco ball. The fire escalated quickly but was eventually deemed “under control” by the Tampa Fire Rescue Officials almost 6 hours later, at around 1:30am. Luckily no one was seriously injured as the club was not open to the public. All three of the workers present in the building when the fire broke out were able to evacuate uninjured, although one firefighter was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. While the Amp has clearly suffered a major setback, the facility’s staff is hopeful and determined to bring back the beloved venue better than ever. You can support the Amp and its staff by donating to the only official GoFundMe here.
