Justin Jay & Friends – Weatherman Ft. Josh Taylor
Justin Jay’s career as a producer kicked off within the first week of his freshmen year at college when Claude VonStroke signed and debuted Justin’s first single “How Goes The Dynamite?”. Since then Justin has worked with various styles of music from deep house to techno, while still being able to embrace his well-known soulful, funky sound. Now, with a few released EPs and a world tour to add to his increasing list of accolades, the young artist is setting himself for more breakout work this year.
The 23-year-old producer continues to characterize his musical prowess in his newest endeavor Fantastic Voyage (The Album!). He has announced that his debut album will gradually accumulate through weekly releases of new songs and EPs off various labels in an effort to allow each track to stand out on its own.
His first song off the album “Weatherman” is a combined effort between him and some of his college buddies. The track is a perfect introduction to what Justin Jay’s album is all about, an endeavor to step outside his comfort zone and explore new ways to push musical boundaries.
“Many of my closest friends in college were obsessed with other kinds of music besides house and techno. When you’re a sensitive music kid in a fratty party school, you can appreciate people who deeply care about any type of music. It just took me awhile to realize we could jam together too.”
This realization eventually led into Justin Jay & Friends, a collaborative project involving vocalist Josh Taylor, guitarist Benny Bridges, and drummer Henry Was. “Weatherman” is their second track to be released, a somber piece that utilizes emphatic guitar plucks, muffled bass bumps, and groovin’ synths that culminate into a stellar intro for the Fantastic Voyage (The Album!).
