JAHKOY – Odd Future
So it’s Friday, and you know we’re gonna be bringing you some heat to kick off the weekend, but first let’s flashback to last April when JAHKOY first landed on our radar. The LA based Toronto native introduced the concept of ‘Bipolarsound’ to the world with “Let it Be,” and has since gone on to develop this sound into something more than a just clever genre moniker; this young maestro is defining a new movement, and it’s gained the attention of Zane Lowe. Mr. Lowe is pretty keen on identifying new top-talent, and he’s thrown in his bid of support with a worldwide premiere on Beats1.
Following up a handful of successful uptempo dance infused singles, JAHKOY’s taken a dive into a deeper realm of music with “Odd Future,” weaving a web of ominous bass notes, eerily beautiful melody, and expectedly smooth vocals. Don’t do this track a disservice by listening to it on your laptop speakers, put some headphones on and revel in the low-end sensations offered here; an amalgamation of drum kicks, bass thumps, and droning synths are just a few of the audible treasures laced throughout this gem, and we haven’t even gotten into lyrics yet. And we won’t, because that’s a whole other journey you’ll have to experience for yourself. Stream below, and enjoy.
