Electronic Music Fans Lead SoundCloud Engagement, Data Shows

A new report from SoundCloud has revealed that electronic music fans are the most engaged users on the platform. Whether it’s sharing, commenting, or reposting tracks, these fans go above and beyond to support their favorite artists. The data, revealed during a panel discussion at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) with Dutch DJ/producer Mau P, highlights just how essential electronic music has become to the SoundCloud ecosystem.

Electronic Music Fans Lead Engagement

According to SoundCloud, electronic music fans are 52% more likely to comment, 104% more likely to share music, and 85% more likely to repost than the average listener. This heightened level of interaction underscores the passion within the electronic music community. For artists, this level of engagement means more visibility and a better chance of breaking through the noise in a crowded music space.

SoundCloud’s ability to foster a direct connection between artists and fans has long been a standout feature of the platform. With more tools enabling artists to engage directly with their audience, SoundCloud has become a go-to platform for electronic producers looking to build a fanbase from the ground up. Jack Bridges of SoundCloud emphasized this during a panel at IMS Ibiza, noting that more artists and labels are using the platform early in their careers to gain traction.

House, Hardcore, and Trance Dominate

When it comes to genre dominance, house music sits comfortably at the top of the charts for plays, listening time, and audience size on SoundCloud. Hardcore comes in second for both plays and listening time, while trance secures the second-largest audience. Interestingly, trance also claims the title of the fastest-growing genre on the platform, with a 24% increase in listening time and an 11% rise in listeners since 2023. These numbers signal a thriving future for trance, which continues to pull in new listeners at an impressive rate.

SoundCloud’s Rising Popularity

The platform’s focus on electronic music is evident, with a 21% rise in electronic music uploads expected this year compared to 2023. There has also been a 6% increase in electronic music plays since 2022. By the end of the year, electronic tracks are predicted to account for 22% of all plays on the platform. This shows that SoundCloud’s reputation as a hub for emerging electronic music talent is only growing stronger.

As SoundCloud continues to evolve, it remains an indispensable tool for electronic music artists and fans alike. The platform’s direct artist-to-fan connection, along with new features like its artist merch store—which allows creators to keep 100% of the profits—reinforces its commitment to supporting the music community.
