Ben Böhmer – Rust
Genre: Melodic House
This week we were graced by the award-winning artist and producer Ben Böhmer, who unveiled yet another wonderful single, entitled ‘Rust.’ The track continues the lead-up to Böhmer’s third studio album, Bloom, arriving September 27 via Ninja Tune. This one is a treat for all of us who have been following him for years.
While Ben’s previous singles serve as a stark departure from his signature sound, ‘Rust’ is a callback for his fans who adore the sound of his previous projects. Begin Again (2021) and Breathing (2019) earned Ben immense success, and this single is a nod to the dreamy, Melodic House sound we all associate with him.
Tiago Dima & Will Vance – Air And Darkness
Genre: Organic House, Melodic House
We’ve been digging the MMR releases lately. They’re developing a lovely sound that spans all things Melodic, Organic, above and below. And this time we’ve got Will Vance — an old friend — behind the decks. He’s joined Tulum sensation Tiago Dima on a beautiful release, simply titled ‘Air And Darkness‘.
This one is a beautiful piece of Organic. So organic, in fact, the bass is much more analogue and real than it is digital and programmed. Can I just say, for the record, that bell playing through the break, really reminds us of that one DKC track, ‘Aquatic Ambience’. The nostalgia paired with the sheer nature of this record carved a spot for itself in our hearts.
Porter Robinson feat. Amy Millan – Hollowheart
Genre: Ambient / Electronica
One of the defining albums of EDM, one of the core ingredients of what we are today as a genre, that’s Worlds to us, Porter Robinson‘s beloved artist album. This week, his debut LP turned 10. And in true Porter fashion, he finally released the “lost” 13th track that never made it onto Worlds.
Four years ago, out of the blue, Porter tweeted that he uploaded another track that he created in 2012, ‘Shepherdess / She Heals Everything‘, for the 6th anniversary. Along with that, he explained that he would release ‘Hollowheart‘, one of the album’s declined tunes, for its tenth birthday. And here we are, enjoying a lovely Ambient piece — with lossless free download. What more could you ask for?!
Peggy Gou – Find The Way
Genre: Tech House, House
Dropping just ahead of her biggest headline show to date at London’s Gunnersbury Park this weekend, the artist, producer, DJ and cultural trailblazer Peggy Gou returned with her latest ‘Find The Way‘ on Gudu Records. The first new track since the release of her debut album I Hear You, this latest single builds on her recent sonic terrain.
Making a midsummer bid for song of the season, on ‘Find The Way’ Gou addictively blends her featherlight breezy vocals with a balmy, technicolour 90s House beat lush with mellow keys, acid-tinged synths and hypnotic basslines. The year 2024 has been a huge one for Gou already with the release of her hotly anticipated debut album I Hear You on XL Recordings in June.
