We’ve got an exciting new release out today, coming to you from none other than Nate Mars. He’s carved out a distinctive niche in the music scene, making use of Acid-infused productions and a shadowy Pop edge that draws listeners in like a magnet. His sound explores two classic ideas with an innovative approach, and that’s what’s led him to quite the successful season.
Influenced by the likes of The Knife, Jamie xx, Aphex Twin, and The Prodigy, Mars likes to break the mould. Recent collaborations and a roster of artists who remixed his In Time EP have underscored his growing impact, which has even made it to the eyes (and ears) of giant BBC Radio 1.
Mars’ live performances only add to his uniqueness and all-rounder mind, with the iconic TB-303 beats blending seamlessly with analogue hardware and looped vocals. His shows include appearances at SXSW and Miami Music Week. And today, he’s back to present a huge project from his very studio.
Dark Room Ghost
Nate Mars’ latest, Dark Room Ghost, is quite the album. It offers a deep reflection of his connection to Underground music culture, by enhancing those Acid elements he’s known for. The LP looks to pay homage to the raw nature of the 90s and early 2000s raves. It captures the intense energy of these moments, creating a blend of nostalgic sounds and cutting-edge techniques.
For Mars, clubs present a paradox. They are vibrant spaces with unparalleled amounts of joy, and are often associated with freedom and community. But at the same time, he also sees moments of loneliness. The anonymity of the crowd and the intensity of the music can sometimes enhance feelings of isolation and introspection.
Dark Room Ghost explores this complex emotional terrain, offering both a deep dive into the good and the bad, the vocal and the unspoken, the light and the dark, perhaps. Through evocative TB-303 sounds, Mars captures a wide spectrum of emotions associated with these spaces — from euphoric highs to solitary lows.
