The ever-controversial Bassnectar is back again and trying to host another event. All eyes are on him for his troubling allegations and on the (unannounced) venue to see if it will go through with the event. It seems like Bassnectar is attempting to close this year by sealing a three-day New Year’s Eve gig in Miami. Recently, a story was posted by the promoter of the event, Siren Sound Syndicate, which shared the news (see below).
No venue has yet been announced. This is probably because if a venue was announced it would come under extreme pressure to pull out of the booking as has happened, one a year ago, and another one earlier this year. It’s always interesting to see how the remaining portions of the Bassnectar fandom respond to these updates. You can peruse the post and comments below.
Controversies Regarding Bassnectar
Bassnectar, once a titan of the Electronic music scene with a hit remix of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Lights’, has become a polarizing figure due to serious allegations of sexual misconduct and grooming of underage fans. These accusations, which surfaced in 2020, led to a significant backlash against the artist, resulting in the cancellation of shows, the severing of ties with major labels, and a substantial decline in his fanbase.
While Bassnectar has denied the allegations, the controversy has sparked important conversations within the EDM community about consent, power dynamics, and the responsibility of artists to their fans. And as the heated topic that he is, every time a move by him is made public, places like r/bassnectar get filled with opinions, both for and against. You’ll find anything and everything from “Desperate enough headliners” to “Me and the entire fam are coming“.
We’re yet to see how the announcement evolves over time, and if the show will be held. It is to be said, the artist has managed to keep a relatively strong fanbase and has actually played some shows without incident in recent times.
Stay tuned for more news!
