You probably recognize TikTok for its short-form videos, but the company has taken a new direction by introducing a fresh social media platform. As Artem Russakovskii reported on X, TikTok has quietly unveiled a new app named “Whee”.
From the screenshots, it appears to closely resemble Instagram. TikTok describes Whee as a platform designed to help users stay connected with their closest friends. Essentially, it functions as a private social network where you can share content exclusively with your inner circle. So it’s a combination of OnlyFans, Snapchat, and BeReal?
“Whee is a new social app created to keep you connected with your close friends through life’s spontaneous moments. Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self.”
Back in April, TikTok confirmed the development of an app called TikTok Notes, which was subsequently rolled out to some users as a photo-sharing space. This move seemed logical since TikTok primarily focuses on video content, making a separate app for photos understandable.
However, TikTok has now introduced another app called Whee, which appears very similar in concept. The purpose of Whee remains unclear to us. It’s possible that TikTok Notes could be rebranded as Whee, but we cannot confirm this.
