Layton Giordani levels up with another production in ‘Freaks at Night’. Get ready as this single reinforces his sonic development through a combination of techno and melodic house elements doused in his own unique touch. We see this release on Drumcode out now.
‘Freaks at Night’ is interstellar and deep. It continues Layton’s adventures in sound. Make no mistake, this could be a well-endowed peak-time record. The track traverses a rich ethereal energy, highlighted by an otherworldly synth line and striking vocal. That is what sets it apart from so many techno tracks. Each verse builds on top of the other, empowering you through the melody and bassline. Those stuttering synths will get you every time you listen. Dance your heart out to this one as it is sure to make you move on the dancefloor. You may have heard this teased in sets by Giordani and Beyer since last summer. Now, the hugely anticipated release becomes a reality.
The Drumcode star has been delightfully scribbling outside the lines in recent times, showing his sonic breadth and impressive sound design skills in the process. From ‘Thrillseeker’, the “B-side” of last year’s ‘Phantom’ EP which touched on trap, dubstep, and hip hop, to the recent remix of Sharam’s ‘P.A.T.T.’ he crafted with Adam Beyer and Green Velvet, which broadened his production palette and became his first Beatport overall No.1 in the process.
Resident Advisor has dubbed him a “true artist in every sense of the word”. Giordani stands firm as a popular tastemaker in techno’s new school. We’ve seen his pioneering musical vision and career grow through the years. The New Yorker strikes hard wherever he goes, garnering a hefty discography that will echo on as long as there are ears to listen.
“My idea behind Freaks at Night was to combine techno and melodic house in a fresh way. The vocal is a classic from the 90s from a vocalist I grew up listening to out of NYC. I guess you could say this track is a vast combination of all my different influences and is a good representation of what’s to come.”
