Yesterday, Spotify announced the launch of its music video beta for Premium users on Android, iOS, desktops, and TVs. The new feature is currently available in only 11 regions: the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya. Spotify stated the feature will expand to more countries, including the U.S., once the beta progresses.
To access the new feature, Spotify Premium users should see a “switch to video” toggle when listening to a song that supports music videos. The video will play directly in the “Now Playing” view on your phone or other device, according to Spotify. Users can also turn their phone sideways to access the music video full-screen. They cannot, however, be played in the background or popped out when users move out of the Spotify app. Users can expect music videos from select artists like Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Ice Spice, Aluna, and Asake. More titles will likely become available as the beta progresses.
Spotify’s new music video beta makes them more of a competitor to YouTube Music, which currently offers music videos to Premium subscribers. YouTube Music also currently lets you easily swap between listening to a song and watching its music video.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding the Spotify music video beta!
