A scheduled Bassnectar show has once again been cancelled by the promoter. The controversial artist was scheduled to headline a two-day event at Gateway Center Arena near Atlanta, Georgia on April 26th and 27th. After the local dance music scene protested the event, citing Bassnectar’s ongoing sexual abuse allegations, the promoter, Siren Sound Syndicate, called it off.
A local drum & bass promoter named MJ Lee, may have been the catalyst for the backlash that led to the cancellation. In a Facebook post, that has since been shared over 500 times, he details Bassnectar’s alleged sexual misconduct, encouraging the local community to take action. He ends his lengthy post with: ‘Help me shut it down.’
Over a thousand comments later, and the Atlanta show was officially cancelled yesterday. Gateway Center Arena posted an official cancellation notice on social media, stating they’ve ‘launched an internal evaluation of the matter.’
This follows a series of similar cancellations, including a very public cancellation last August, in which Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina cancelled Bassnectar‘s FreakStyle event, originally set to take place over Halloween weekend. Like the Gateway Center Arena show, the decision was made after backlash from the dance music community.
