Do you recall this banger from Lane 8‘s recent summer mixtape? I remember at the two-hour eight-minute mark when this song played, it had this amazing Le Youth and Lane 8 collaboration written all over it. Out today through This Never Happened is ‘I Will Leave A Light On‘, the second single of Wes‘ sophomore album, About Us. It features the lovely vocals of Jyll. This release comes a few weeks after his first single ‘Like You Did‘.
I Will Leave A Light On
The two artists finally release their first collaboration together. They have remixed each other’s tracks since as early as 2013. If you were at the Summer Gatherings in New York, or at EDC you’d recognize this from those sets by Daniel and Wes respectively. Of course, the Summer Gatherings happen without phones so the crowd there were the first exclusive to receive this tune. I don’t know about you, but this might be my favourite release of the year. The vocals of Jyll transport me to an emotional journey this song takes listeners on. The lyrics start with a melancholic trip, a lost feeling, but the chorus brings you a ray of hope and the light to come home. The mix of the synths and beats has a unique blend from the maestro Daniel and the melodic Wes. Jyll’s debut on TNH could not be with a better track! Know you heard it from me first, but this track will be one you will be grooving to for a long time on the dance floor.
Lane 8 as promised has been delivering hits all through the year. Each song surprises me in a way I didn’t think I could be. I can’t wait to see what the remaining part of the year has in store for the artist and his label.
About Us
Le Youth’s second studio album, About Us is scheduled to release on September 29th. About Us started as a song in 2020 with EMME. It then progressed as a show concept in 2022, after the pandemic. It saw Wes focus on the authentic experience between the artist and fans. Revolving around the raw and authentic self, us going through a rollercoaster of emotions. If you have been lucky enough to experience the About Us shows you would understand how interactive it is.
My personal take is its an experience like none other. Wes brought this concept to Toronto earlier in March this year whilst touring with Sultan & Shepard. He came down interacted with all his fans, signed my flag and funny enough also trusted us enough to crowd surf! What an amazing show. Can’t wait for the next. The cherry on top of the shows is the exclusive merch. Wes never fails to take a picture with the crowd and then prints them on tee shirts. I just love how unique his concept is.
If you aren’t familiar with Wes James, better known as Le Youth, he has been a familiar face on TNH since 2019. His debut album Reminders painted a nostalgic memory, as the name suggests was released just a year ago. Be sure to listen to this melodic king. Trust me you would want to be at one of his live shows this year. Check out if he is playing in your city here.
Stay tuned to EDMTunes, we will be following Wes‘ journey through his releases.
