After massive success with their ‘Like That’ collab in 2018, NGHTMRE and Big Gigantic announced their debut EP as GIGANTIC NGHTMRE and celebrated with an EP release party at the Brooklyn Mirage. They’ve already played iconic performances over the years with standouts at EDC Las Vegas and Ultra Music Festival. Fast forward to last Sunday which was their first ever show as the trio group at the Brooklyn Mirage. Additionally, the show came just after the release of their GIGANTIC NGHTMRE EP release. Both of them have played their own shows at the Mirage before so this one was one for the books with NGHTMRE and the acclaimed duo taking centerstage.
Sunday Fundays are always fun at the Mirage, especially with Maddy O’Neal starting it off with her dirty funky bass music. The talented artist brings soul and vibe from all spectrums of dance music, providing lush soundscapes for her listeners. Her set was packed full of low end frequencies mixed in with her funk roots and future bass sound design. The crowd was grooving during the full set all until the experimental duo MEMBA took the decks. The duo are known for their out of this world rhythms and bumping trap synths. The energy was picking up across the Mirage sanctuary as the sun slowly set, which gave room for their visuals to take the crowds focus alongside their music.
Finally at 10:30pm, NGHTMRE and Big Gigantic were ready to rock the Mirage with their instrumental ensemble setup. From start to finish, the Mirage crowd was captivated with their dynamic fusion of instrumentations and hefty doses of bass sounds. Their set was a music journey across multiple genres with the energy never letting down and only raising higher and higher. It was a sight to behold with NGHTMRE controlling the transitions while Big Gigantic do what they do best, bringing the funk and flair with their iconic saxophone solos. ‘Gud Vibrations’ was a standout highlight of the night for myself as the live drums with sax rattled and whiffled through the venue. ‘Back For More’ was also another knocker with the drums and sax accompanied with a great vocal topline. And of course the group would stun the crowd with their tracks from their latest EP. Additionally, the visuals were a sight to see on top of what it seemed like a never ending display of pyrotechnics and lasers.
