Hype For New Social Media Threads Is Dying Down

Just a few weeks ago Meta released Threads. A pretty much direct competitor to Twitter, the application saw a surge in popularity. Now a few weeks later, it has cooled off and seen its numbers dwindle.

According to data from software company Sensor Tower, Threads’ number of daily active users went down about 20% from Saturday, and time spent on the platform dropped 50%. The application did have a record 100 million users sign up in just 5 days.

There is thought that people are simply fatigued by the amount of social media options. People have their favorite 2 or 3 and stick to them. There is only so much time in a day to check each social media. According to the Pew Research Center, 72% of Americans use some type of social media. Backlinko, a company that specializes in search engine optimization and links, says the average social media user is engaged on 6.6 different platforms.

People should be mindful of how each application makes them feel. The U.S. Surgeon General has sounded the alarm and issued multiple advisories recently around youth mental health and teens’ social media use. If one brings you happiness and laughter, then you have found your social media.
