King Charles Asked Pete Tong to Play Ibiza Classics at Coronation Concert

King Charles’ coronation concert at Windsor Castle was a star-studded affair, featuring a lineup of big names like Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Paloma Faith, and Olly Murs. The newly-crowned monarch, who is 74 years old, specifically requested DJ Pete Tong to kick off the event with some Ibiza classics, and the legendary DJ was more than happy to oblige.

Pete revealed that King Charles had been very specific about his desire for Ibiza classics and had even suggested a few songs himself. After some back-and-forth, they settled on one particular track to start off the show. “They very much had an involvement in what they wanted us to perform,” Pete told MailOnline backstage.

The reason behind the King’s request, according to Pete, was to showcase a variety of UK talent and to appeal to different age groups. And appeal they did – the concert drew in a crowd ranging from kids to pensioners, or as Pete calls them, “relapsed ravers”.

Aside from the music, the concert also made headlines for Katy Perry’s massive entourage. The “I Kissed a Girl” singer reportedly took up five dressing rooms and brought along more than 50 aides to help her prepare for the performance. But sources say Katy isn’t too demanding, and her rider requests are relatively modest.

The concert, which was broadcast live on BBC One and BBC Radio 2, was presented by Kirsty Young after Zoe Ball had to pull out due to illness. All in all, it was a night to remember, with some of the biggest names in music coming together to celebrate King Charles’ coronation. We’re glad some of our music was represented at big event.
