Drunken Kong steps up and debuts on Drumcode with their single ‘I Want To See‘. The duo are residents at Tokyo’s legendary Womb. What’s more, they have notched up a string of quality releases on labels including Tronic, Terminal M, and Octopus. Over the years, they’ve reinforced themselves as one of Japan’s most treasured techno acts.
Drunken Kong has a distinct sound signature. It’s described as dreamy and melodic with vocal elements that rub shoulders with the pair’s trademark groove-orientated rhythms. They create hypnotic techno outings that span the breadth of the genre, from heads-down rollers to peak-time pleasure.
Firstly, ‘I Want To See’ is one of four of an inspiring four-track work to a sonic manifesto. Secondly, as the title track, it is a late-night dancefloor affair that shifts between function and fun. It’s a slick mix of polished grooves and hypnotizing melodies building towards a thrilling crescendo. Now, stay tuned for three other tracks of this EP. Each track is built around different vocal samples used to skillful effect. ‘It’s Then’ opens the EP and brings atmosphere in spades, mixing up a chugging bottom end, a sleek synth line, and a sublime vocal that simmers throughout. Thirdly, ‘That’s It’ brings peak-time energy against a plump electro backbone and ’90-tinged vocal. Lastly, the EP rounds out with evocative ‘Need It’, as a stirring vox and metallic drumlines propel the track forward.
Druken Kong is the project of D. Singh and DJ Kyoko. The two started the project in 2010 when they made a track together. Since then, they’ve released two albums, numerous EPS, and singles. They’ve topped Beatport Top 100 Techno charts and an impact on the Asian and global techno scene. Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, Monika Kruse, Pan-Pot, and many more support them. They are an act to look out for. Listen to ‘I Want To See’ now.
