This past weekend, Ultra Music Festival returned to downtown Miami for its twenty-third year. As with any large, global festival—particularly one that releases its attendees back into the city at the end of the night, there were a number of arrests and hospitalizations.
EDM lovers from around the world crowd into Florida to see some of the biggest DJs and producers in the world. With this comes excessive drinking, drugs and plenty of bad decisions.
The City of Miami Police Department made seven arrests on Friday. Charges included disorderly conduct, disorderly intoxication, trespassing and possession of fraudulent credit cards, according to the department.
As for injuries, 49 patients were evaluated on the festival grounds, according to Miami Fire Rescue, and 15 were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another seven arrests were made on Saturday of the festival, said Miami Police officials.
It seems an increase of heavy police presence and security at the festival helped ensure they saw lower numbers of arrests this year.
