Desert Hearts festival will move from Lake Perris to an open-air location at LA Memorial Coliseum.
I’m writing this post with love. Desert Hearts is more than just a festival, it’s a label, it’s City Hearts. It’s a necklace that many wear proudly in the hopes someone says, “Hey, did you go to DH last year”?
Following an announcement, the annual festival will be held beneath The Torch at LA Coliseum.
Desert Hearts Festival has had several venue changes in its 11-year lifetime, having found a home at Los Coyotes Indian Reservation. Lake Perris was its latest location, set to return in early April. But due to the venue change, there will no longer be camping at the festival.
Desert Hearts said in an Instagram post that its shift to DTLA is due to the rising cost of event production.
On the post, Desert Hearts co-founder Mikey Lion comments,
“…We did everything we could to move forward at Lake Perris without risking the future of DH…We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to turn what would have been a straight up festival cancellation into something special happening the same weekend in Southern California.“
Several others involved with the festival commented with similar sentiments.
Ticketing won’t be an issue.
All one-day passes have been converted to 2-day passes, and the price has been reduced to $99, a $200 discount. Auxillary purchases such as camping and Early Arrival will be automatically refunded along with fees. Tickets have been transferred automatically to the new venue. Customers looking for a full refund can do so.
The festival will keep its scheduled lineup, including Skream, Justin Martin, DJ Seinfeld, and Catz N’ Dogz. Of course, we must mention the regular sets from showrunners Marbs, Lee Reynolds, Mikey Lion, and Porky, who have become local celebrities in the West Coast House and Techno scene.
It seems Desert Hearts is doing whatever it can to give the community what it wants- more Desert Hearts. Comments on the Instagram post carry a generally positive sentiment. Some note that it will be much easier to get to, even if that means sacrificing its previous lakefront location. Sometimes, you have to roll with the punches, and this is a prime example of a beloved event company and community doing just that.
