Spotify just added the ability to exclude some of your playlists from your taste profile. This means the Kidz Bop you throw on to appease your five-year-old, the white noise you put on to sleep, and your occasional hankering for country won’t affect your Spotify recommendations.
Spotify creates a ‘Taste Profile’ for each user, based on individual listening habits over time. This is how they so accurately suggest new music for you in your Daily Mixes, Discover Weekly, etc. The new feature allows certain playlists to be excluded from those recommendations, so you’re only receiving the music suggestions you actually want to see.
Here’s how to do it:
- Select the playlist you want to exclude from future recommendations.
- Tap the three dots near the top of the playlist.
- Now tap ‘Exclude from your Taste Profile.’
Your excluded playlists can still be found in the Home tab and any liked songs within that playlist will be unaffected. And if you change your mind, it’s easy to re-include any playlist using the same steps.
The new feature is available to all Spotify users via the web, desktop, iOS, and Android apps.
