This past weekend, the world’s most famous arena just added another legendary music performance to it’s long historic list. Many DJs and artists have headlined sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden, but this weekend, for the first time ever, the iconic venue transformed into a boiler room rave. The legendary DJ trio of Skrillex, Four Tet and Fred again.. cemented their names into MSG history by throwing down a 5 hour B2B2B set to a sold-out crowd.
The unforgettable event was only days in the making as it was announced just a few days prior to the actual show. Although the event was short noticed, the demand to see the 3 dance music icons perform was undeniable the entire show was sold out within just minutes of going on sale. Fast forwarding to the event, once the doors opened at 7PM, fans rushed to either their seats or to the GA floor with Skrillex and Four-Tet already on the decks dropping bangers from the beginning. Over the next hour, the entire arena would fill up and the energy would be circulated all over the venue. The stage design for the show was impressive with very minimal presentation, minor lasers and confetti throughout the night to truly project the boiler room energy into the arena.
Iconic tracks from all three artists were played throughout the night but of course the man of the hour was Skrillex. Fans were ecstatic to hear all the new music he just put out the day before. To the pure delight of all his fans, Skrillex released a second surprise album during the show to coincide with the epic performance. There were also a handful of special guests that made appearances at the show including Porter Robinson to perform his new collaboration with Skrillex called ‘Still Here (with the ones I came with)”. There was also even a surprise appearance from Sebastian Ingrosso who actually performed at the venue not too long ago during Swedish House Mafia’s Paradise Again tour. From classics to unreleased tracks, everyone in attendance were just delighted to be a part of this legendary night. When you hear the tracks ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift and Excision’s ‘Titan’ played in the same set, the average dance music enthusiast may be like what? But the trio seamlessly made this work with effortless transitions and builds. The whole stadium was also rumbling through the jungle in the city that never sleeps as Skrillex repeated “New York In the Jungle” throughout the night. The frantic builds of ‘Rumble’ is truly magical with the hype built around these three artists.
We are only in the second month of the year and Skrillex has already released 2 albums and put on a few of the most unforgettable shows in dance music history. There is no doubt that the dance music scene is better with Skrillex active and this weekend solidifies that claim.
