Back in September, FNGRS CRSSD has announced the lineup for its newest event PROPER NYE, a two-day, three stage event set to ring in the new year in San Diego, bringing over 20 of House and Techno’s music’s biggest and most in-demand names to Gallagher Square and the field at Petco Park for a dual New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebration. Now the event is right around the corner and we are looking forward to experiencing the overwhelmingly talented line up. Here are our Top Three Anticipated Sets for next weekend!
SOMHI
Taking 2022 by storm popping up at the biggest clubs and festivals across the country which recently included sets at Coachella’s Yuma Tent, SOHMI has proven to be a force to be reckoned with and is showing no signs of slowing down.
A classically trained pianist, music has always played a major part in her life but it was the world of electronic dance music where she really found her niche and truly began to thrive following a self-released promo mix in 2018. The blossoming Korean American talent is a versatile DJ, producer, and vocalist with her productions being an enchanting blend of minimal house and techno featuring her own pop-inspired vocals. We are looking forward to the breath of fresh air that she will bring to the line up for PROPER NYE, especially since dance music is typically male dominated. SOHMI joins Annabel Englund, Azzecca, Nora En Pure and Sofi (in Sofi Tukker) as one of a handful of female DJ Producers on the lineup.
Mau P
Mau P is a producer, DJ, and singer-songwriter who has made appearances at Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival following releases on Armada Music and more under his Maurice West alias. Debuting earlier this year as Mau P, the Amsterdam native dropped a new single for Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars imprint called ‘Drugs From Amsterdam’ which had the dance music world in a chokehold. Earning impressive streaming numbers and plays by DJs like Oliver Heldens at mainstages all over the world, Mau P has rose to fame at a meteoric pace and this marks one of the first times he is appearing on a lineup on this side of the pond.
Eli Brown
UK based Eli Brown has brought a visceral energy to club sonics ever since his emergence on the scene in 2016. Coming up in Bristol’s famed dance community, home to pioneers of jungle, drum’n’bass, dubstep and more, Brown’s production style captures the raw atmospherics of his homeland’s icons and applies them to a blend of house, techno and full-bodied electronica, custom-built for cavernous warehouse spaces. This sound has helped him rise to prominence in a hotly-contested club scene, rapidly gaining support from the likes of Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Calvin Harris, Alan Fitzpatrick, Solardo, Green Velvet and more. Proper NYE is currently the only US show date that is listed on his website, so don’t miss out!
Disclaimer!
This top three does not mean we are not excited to see favored headliners and heavyweights like Chris Lake, Fisher, John Summit, and and Kaskade. Having already gone through a rather impressive 2022, appearing on their fair share of lineups, we chose to focus on up and coming artists that received big breaks this year, or don’t often appear on lineups in the United States.
