Raver Takes 40,000 MDMA Pills Over Nine Years and Survives

This just in – a raver story about a man who survived nine years after taking 40,000 MDMA pills. Now, this is the biggest known number of ecstasy pills taken by one person. That equates to 25 pills a day, what?! Mixmag uncovered this story and reported that the man known as Mr. A took an estimated 40,000 pills and survived all this time.

According to The Face, Mr. A had his story published in Psychosomatics, the psychiatry journal, in 2006. Between ages 21 and 30, the man consumed all those pills a day and eventually quit. He ended up collapsing repeatedly at parties and later hospitalized.

“For the first two years, he took five tablets every weekend. It escalated to an average daily use of three-and-a-half tablets for the next three years, and further to an average of 25 daily over the next four years.”

Additionally, he mixed the drugs with solvents, benzodiazepines, amphetamines, LSD, cocaine, and heroin. He also coupled that gigantic maelstrom with weed. Side effects? Let’s list them. Tunnel vision, memory difficulties, severe panic attacks, recurrent anxiety, depression, muscle rigidity at the neck and jaw, functional halluncinations and paranoid ideation. By the time he reached 37, he finally stopped. Dr. Christos Kouimtsidis reports that the high lasted him months since the multitude of MDMA stayed in his body. There is no detail on the whereabouts of Mr. A now. His last visit to the hospital left him requesting “old-school trance and king-size skins”. You can read the full article on The Face here.

“We need to be very careful how we use those extreme cases. Because people might say, ‘Oh, I have been using ecstasy for such a long time and I have no issues with my memory so it’s not relevant.” If ecstasy isn’t used to excess, it is considered one of the safer recreational drugs.”

While a fascinating case, illegal substances are illegal for a reason. We know in this scene it can be so easy to do. But let this story serve as a reminder of the repercussions of our impulsive actions. Stay safe everyone.
