Multi GRAMMY Award-winning duo Justice have just announced details for an impending deluxe edition of their era-defining debut album Cross. Cross reissue is set for its digital release via Ed Banger Recordsnext Thursday, December 15. The purpose of the reissue is to honor and celebrate Cross’ 15th anniversary. So far, and to keep their fans all over the world interested, a new version of their trailblazing hit single “D.A.N.C.E.” featuring Logic has just been released.
The deluxe edition comprises the original album plus an additional 6 bonus rarities. It also includes the previously unissued album outtake “Donna,” and multiple demos. These all arrive amid a flurry of reissues from the band, including lavish new vinyl pressings of their celebrated 2008 live album A Cross The Universe. The 2008 Dior soundtrack Planisphere and the digital release of the extended “D.A.N.C.E.” EP compiling all the various versions and remixes of the song all form part of this new release.
‘Cross’, One Of Dance Music’s Most Influential Albums Will Go Through Deluxe Reissue
Upon its release 15 years ago Justice’s debut album changed the course of electronic music. This would kick-start an era where DJs and producers were embraced with a fervor previously reserved for rockstars. The Cross tour embraced the bombast of rock concert aesthetics. The most memorable image: the band flanked by a giant wall of Marshall speaker cabinets amid visceral light shows. It would then culminate in the release of the concert film and accompanying live album A Cross the Universe.
In the intervening years, the band has continued releasing a stream of acclaimed albums. Most recently, they released the live-in-studio album Woman Worldwide (awarded the Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Electronic Album in 2017). They would also go on to make the subsequent live film IRIS: A Space Opera.
There’s absolutely no doubt of Cross is one of dance music’s biggest albums. Justice forever changed the panorama with this one. Finally, underground dance music was ready to join the rest of their brother and sister genres. Rock, hip-hop, and all-around protest music. Music for those who don’t belong to the mainstream. Music for those who don’t care about looks and wealth, but about unity on the dancefloor.
