Coachella 2022 is only two weeks away, and the festival has once again lost a headliner. According to TMZ, Kanye West (Ye) has pulled out of his headlining set. Rumors had been swirling in recent weeks that Kanye would be dropped from the festival in the wake of the controversy surrounding his social media activity towards Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson.
The controversy was enough to get a petition started to have Kanye dropped from the lineup, and the petition gathered more than 49,000 signatures. However, there is more to the Kanye Coachella story, as the rapper also planned to bring Travis Scott with him and demanded Billie Eilish apologize to Scott. Obviously, that has not happened.
This would not be the first time Kanye and Coachella had drama. The previous time Kanye dropped out because Coachella could not configure its main stage to his liking for his performance. Ever the perfectionist, Kanye refused to perform any other way.
At this time, neither Kanye nor Coachella have made any public statements about this but Billboard is confirming the news. No word on a replacement has been floated, but Swedish House Mafia is already awkwardly placed on the lineup posted at the bottom. It would make sense for Swedish House Mafia to take that official headlining spot and call it a day. We’ll keep you updated.
