Bristol-based duo Tom and Ian Griffiths make up Icarus and have a new single out on Anjunadeep. Titled ‘Only‘, follows their successful track ‘Moment In Time’. Their signature emotive and melodic house continues to shine through here. It’s a beautiful, mellow track that is perfect for listening on nights, overlooking the city skyline.
‘Only’ blends wistful, piano with a two-step groove firmly rooted in UK dance music. The percussive drum beats alternate with the ambient textures. Ethereal moans sing in the background. It’s a unique style I’ve yet to hear on Anjunadeep and I think it fits just right. They’ve described this piece as energetic and inspired by the garage sound. The lo-fi sounds melt your heart and touch your soul. You can definitely enjoy this with headphones or wherever you are.
“We’ve really been enjoying writing at slightly quicker tempos lately. 130bpm+ just feels so energetic to us, and we’ve been feeling inspired by the resurgence of the garage sound, especially with a lo-fi texture to it. With ‘Only’ we wanted to create something that was melodic and enjoyable in headphones but still upbeat and grooving enough for a club environment. We recently dropped this tune at Printworks and the reaction was great, so we hope we’ve achieved our aim!”
