Next up in the EDMTunes “Best Of” series, a chance for our writers and editors to vote on our personal favorites of each year, is the 10 Best Remixes of 2021. 2021 was definitely a year filled with ups and downs, and along with that came new music to help get us through. We have already revealed our Breakout Artists of 2021, and with so many creative minds releasing music this whole year, it was definitely tough to narrow it down, but we did it. Without further ado, here are our picks. At the bottom, you’ll find a playlist of all of them!
10. Age of Love – The Age of Love (Artbat, Pete Tong Remix)
This year’s top 10 list includes 2 instances of 2 remixes to the same track making it into our list, which is a testament to the original track as well as the people who coordinated the remixing artists for it. The first entry on our list is Artbat’s entrancing melodic techno rework of the classic “The Age of Love”. While you probably know this track from the Charlotte de Witte and Enrico Sangiuliano remix (more on that later), Artbat also remixed the track with amazing results. This one was a mainstay in their sets recently, and you might have thought it was some sort of rework of the techno remix, but this one stands apart all on its own.
9. Monolink-Under Dark (Innellea Remix)
While there was already much-deserved hype surrounding Monolink’s original version, there is no denying Innellea’s touch elevates the track. The combination of Monolink and Innellea’s styles provides us with the dark, melodic techno remix we didn’t know we needed.
8. Age of Love-The Age of Love (Charlotte De Witte and Enrico Sangiuliano Remix)
It is not easy to take a fan-favorite, classic 90s clubbing track and not only do it justice but arguably make it even better. That is exactly what Charlotte De Witte and Enrico Sangiuliano did masterfully and nostalgically with ‘The Age of Love.’
7. RÜFÜS DU SOL-Alive (Anyma Remix) + (Solomun Remix)
This list would not be complete without also adding the Anyma ‘Alive’ remix. The latest project from Matteo Milleri of Tale Of Us, Anyma showcases his ability to weave bass-line techno synths with RÜFÜS’s signature indie-electronic style.
Only Solomun could restructure a RÜFÜS DU SOL track into a 9-minute melodic masterpiece, still leaving us wanting more. The deep, sweeping grooves of the house and techno legend’s version are a further testament to his wide range of production abilities as if we needed any more proof.
6. Chris Lorenzo (feat. High Jinx)-California Dreamin’ (Vintage Culture Remix)
It’s no secret that whatever Vintage Culture touches, turns to gold. The latest remix from the Brazilian mastermind dropped just in time to climb our ranks and make it onto this list, rightfully so.
5. SLANDER (feat. Dylan Matthew)-Love Is Gone (Armin van Buuren Remix)
An unexpected, yet pleasant surprise dabble into the bass world from trance legend Armin van Buuren gave us this remix. van Buuren skillfully reworks the original track into a pulsating, futuristic synth-filled masterpiece.
4. Above & Beyond (feat. Richard Bedford)- Sun & Moon (ilan Bluestone Remix)
ilan Bluestone is one of the few who can remix as classic of a song as ‘Sun & Moon’ and do it justice. The British DJ/producer intensifies the pulsating trance beat and builds up to an iconic drop, in this latest track.
3. RÜFÜS DU SOL-I Don’t Wanna Leave (Innellea Remix)
Gracing the list for a second time, Innellea brought ‘I Don’t Wanna Leave’ to a completely new level. Placing a modern twist and some insane synth production into the track, the rising techno star tastefully reinvents RÜFÜS’s latest release.
2. Sofi Tukker-Drinkee (Vintage Culture & John Summit Remix)
With Vintage Culture and John Summit topping out our Breakout Artists of 2021 list, it comes as no surprise that this catchy tech-house remix finds its way to the top of this list as well. The all-star DJ/producers livened up the already stellar track from iconic Portuguese duo, Sofi Tukker, which made an appearance in virtually ever club and house set this summer.
1. Shouse-Love Tonight (Vintage Culture & Kiko Franco Remix)
Are you even surprised the #1 remix of 2021 is a collaboration involving Vintage Culture? We’re certainly not. The Brazilian superstar joined forces with Kiko Franco to take on one of the most popular songs of the year-and masterfully delivered this gem which rightfully earned them the top spot in our book!
