Britain‘s Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposed tougher COVID-19 restrictions in England last Wednesday. The newly announced “Plan B” aims to stop the rising of coronavirus cases. Johnson urged people to work from home, wear masks in public places and use vaccine passes to slow the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant. Obviously, people will be required to show their NHS COVID passes to enter clubs across England as well.
For those who don’t know, an NHS COVID Pass shows your Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination details or test results. Starting December 15th, only fully vaccinated people – or those who show a negative lateral flow/PCR test – will have the chance to enter clubs across the country.
While still a long way from the full lockdowns imposed earlier in the pandemic, the new measures were described as a “hammer blow” for restaurants and entertainment venues like clubs. These measures will apply to all unseated indoor venues that can hold over 500 people. For the unseated outdoor venues, the threshold is set at 4,000 people.
“It’s become increasingly clear that Omicron is growing much faster than the previous Delta variant”, the prime minister said. “We need to go further and faster still.”
In the last few weeks, we’ve seen a good number of events being postponed in Europe. Among them, there is Belgium’s Rampage festival and the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Show. We also saw clubs in France forced to close for a full month. Hopefully, the situation will be under control sooner than later.
