Maceo Plex just reworked the iconic 2015 track by Faithless, ‘Insomnia‘. This is almost perfect timing as festivals begin to make their comeback. The remix features the original track and vocals with a major electronic, techno feel. From the old school rave vibes to the new, check out two versions of the remix.
Remember the original with Maxi Jazz rapping from the point of view of an insomniac. He speaks to all the ravers in us, as dance music is quite the stimulant in rave culture. The unrelenting bass line is deep and industrial. It propels you forward and just might make your heads bob. Additional instrumentals twist with the track as it continues on. That iconic hook comes in at five minutes in, and you’re just craving for it to drop so that you can dance your hearts out. Sweat it out, and keep moving to the beat.
British musical group, Faithless, recorded and released this song as their second single. It became one of their most successful ones, topping the UK singles chart, and the UK dance chart. In addition, it also topped charts in Finland, Norway, Switzerland, American, and Canadian dance charts. Mixmag dubbed it the fifth-greatest dance record of all time back in 2013.
Does anyone remember when they first heard this song? Excited for it to come back into the new generation? I think we can all attest to this frenetic, melodic ode to late night restlessness and sleep-deprived reveries. That’s how Justin Chadwick puts it. So check out both edits below, and get ready to get back to dancing.
