Beatport Unveils New Mainstage Section, Adds Hype Chart

There are numerous places to buy music as a listener in today’s day and age. As a DJ, however, not as many. One of the biggest, and perhaps best music retailers for DJs around the world is the platform known as Beatport. In the past, we’ve covered when Beatport added new genres to their site, as they did with Dance/Electro Pop in 2020. We’ve also covered when they reinstated old ones such as Hard Techno last summer. Today we bring you news of a new category from Beatport, by the name of ‘Mainstagemusic.

Mainstage Music

The new addition to Beatport, now known as its MainStage category, comes as a surprise to most. The new category in question will meld the sounds of Electro, Future, and Big Room house all into one. If you’ve ever been to a music festival or spent time at the MainStage, this is exactly what you would hear there. I would be pressed to throw progressive house into that hat as well.

In a press release, Beatport states that the ‘new‘ genre will pay homage to:

“high-energy sounds of the festival mainstage”

and will:

“celebrate a diverse range of dance music fit for a sold-out crowd filled with the most dedicated ravers.”

Genre Charts

After having given the MainStage category a quick glance, the page’s top 10 caught my eye. To no surprise, the reigning DJ Mag Top 100 winner, David Guetta holds the number one spot. He does so with his remix of Shouse‘s ‘Love Tonight. It’s worth noting that Steve Angello & Laidback Luke‘s ‘Show Me Love‘ mix is also on the list, considering that the tune came out over 10 years ago. If you’ve been to an event at any point in the last decade, I’m positive you’ve heard it on a MainStage somewhere.

As for the Hype Top 10, the track listing is a bit different, with ‘Light It Up by VRDGO taking the top spot. The rest of the tunes are also all relatively new.

As a connoisseur of the MainStage myself, I wanted to check out what the Beatport ‘Staff Picks’ consisted of, and I was impressed. Typically, we see charts like this and don’t always agree with what the editors and curators put together. This was not the case. The Beatport staff chose tunes from MainStage heavyweights like Sandro Silva, Blasterjaxx, Morgan Page, and even Twoloud to represent the “new” genre. If you’re familiar with these artists, or their respective tracks, you know how MainStage ready they are.

With that being said, be sure to check out the Beatport MainStage Top 100 here. For more information, and to check out the new Beatport MainStage section, be sure to check them out here. Happy hunting.
