After a year of rumors, Spotify finally developed a hands-free feature for its users. The company set out to create a new voice-controlled experience called “Hey Spotify”. The feature will make it easier for users to start, navigate, and search for their music without using their hands. For Spotify, this addition “unlocks a truly mobile and versatile way for users to enjoy voice-controlled access to the personalized Spotify experience, anytime, anywhere”. Listeners can now access Spotify Voice from anywhere in the app. As a result, they no longer have to go through the search tab to access the voice feature. With a simple phrase like “Hey Spotify, play my Daily Drive,” users will instantly hear the mix.
Here’s how it works. When the app is open and on your screen, the user has to say the wake word (you guessed it, “Hey Spotify”). Next, you will see on-screen text reading “Try saying an artist, song, or playlist name”. From there, providing an artist’s name will prompt the app to shuffle his or her music.
Even for users who are being indecisive on their music choice, “Hey Spotify” got you covered. Users can ask Spotify directly to play countless songs, artists, moods, and genres. Also, it doesn’t matter if you’ve forgotten the name of a specific song, just asking Spotify to play a particular artist or genre will get you to music you’ll love.
After changing its interface a few weeks ago, the streaming giant continues to innovate. For now, “Hey Spotify” started rolling out to some listeners in the U.S. across iOS and Android devices, with more to follow over the next few weeks, according to the company’s website.
