Mushroom Service Centers Are Coming to Oregon

Oregon, the first state to legalize magic mushrooms, will open up magic mushroom centers for drug distribution. Centers will open by 2023. Psilocybin-assisted therapy will also take place in these centers. This type of therapy aims to assist adults with substance abuse and mental health treatment.

Consequently, this all comes after Measure 109 passed in November 2020. The measure called for drug de-criminalization of small amounts of drugs including heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD, psilocybin, methadone, and oxycodone. The measure passed with 56% of people voting “yes”. Oregon is now the first state to also decriminalize magic mushrooms for therapeutic use. Those over the age of 21, or those who pass a screening will be able to get treatment.

It’ll still take some time for both Measure 109 to apply and for these service centers to be operational; about two years. Regardless, this is a big step for mental health and substance abuse treatment, as well as for drug decriminalization in the United States.
