Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a press release Friday that Miami-Dade officials may lift the county’s curfew on April 5th. The final decision will arrive depending on how coronavirus trends continue, but the expectation is positive taking into consideration the last data.
Positive news arrived after Levine Cava sent a memo to the Board of County Commissioners. Moreover, said memo addressed the results from a 30-day “medical data” review. Besides, with all the information available, the mayor could justify and explain properly her decision. “If current trends continue and the 14-day average is at or below 5.5% at that time, the midnight to 6 a.m. curfew may be removed”.
“We are now in the final chapter of our fight against the coronavirus as we aggressively expand vaccination efforts. We can’t afford to let our guard down when we are so close to the finish line. I am confident that by continuing to work together with our residents and businesses, we can drive down our positivity rate below the 5.5% mark needed to minimize community spread of COVID-19.”
On the other hand, if the situation gets worse, the memo also has it covered. According to Levine Cava’s memo, the curfew could return if the 14-day positivity rate rises above 6%. Miami is a step closer to being back to normal.
As a consequence of President Biden’s announcement, local officials are considering easing back on coronavirus restrictions despite experts’ pleas. If Biden’s calculations are right, the U.S. would have enough vaccine supply for all Americans by the end of May.
Miami And Other States Also Ease Curfew and Restrictions After Positive Trend
Despite the positive general trend regarding COVID-19 and its spread, some of the nation’s top health officials keep warning in recent weeks that the emergence of the new variants could provoke a new wave. Besides, one of the biggest threats is the strain first identified in the U.K., known as B.1.1.7.
Besides, Texas, Mississippi, and Connecticut are taking firm steps in order to return to normality. These states will allow businesses to resume operations at full capacity. On top of that, both Texas and Mississippi also decided to lift their statewide mask mandates. Despite this ease of measures, it is still recommended by health authorities to continue covering the face.
