The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed due to COVID-19. Multiple sources including Rolling Stone say this is due to the rising cases in Los Angeles. Even with a new year, things remain the same.
Originally scheduled for January 31st, the new date is Sunday, March 14, 2021. However, this also conflicts with the SAG Awards who had to reschedule their dates last year to them due to COVID-19 as well. Nevertheless, the show will go on and differently this year. That means performers and presenters presenting to an empty venue. Most likely, winners will tune in with virtual acceptance speeches.
“The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have led us to…postponing our show. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.
We want to thank all…for their understanding, patience and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times.”
Joint statement from Harvey Mason Jr., Chair & Interim President/CEO of the Recording Academy, Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music, Live Events and Alternative Programming, CBS; and Ben Winston, GRAMMY Awards Executive Producer, Fulwell 73 Productions
