Microsoft Reveals Surface Duo to Replace Your Phone and Tablet

Microsoft has officially revealed the Surface Duo and it’s getting some mixed feelings. The dual-screen portable tablet looks unique and useful for those who work on the go. Still, when looking at the Surface Duo, we’re reminded of the unsuccessful Windows Phone from 2010. Nonetheless, let’s look at some of the official specs before you place your preorder.

Set to arrive on September 10th, Microsoft is ready to battle it out with Apple’s next iPhone lineup. Compared to the 2020 iPhone, the Surface Duo includes two screens, attached with a 360-degree hinge. The device can be operated in several configurations, depending on the task at hand. For example, you can open it up flat like a tablet or fold it in half like a normal smartphone. You can even set it down like a mini laptop and the device will stand on its own.

Internal Specs

The components inside the device are critical, especially for those wanting to replace their larger computers for this. According to the release, the Surface Duo will run on Android and run any Android app. In addition, it will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor. There will be 6GB of RAM available and two storage options, 128GB and 256GB. The two 5.6-inch AMOLED screens are crisp for various tasks and allow for easy multitasking. Unlike other foldable devices like the Galaxy Fold, the Surface Duo will have a visible hinge separating the two screens.

Price

In terms of price, the Surface Duo will start at $1,399. If you want the 256GB storage model, the price rises to $1,500. All in all, it’s certainly not a cheap device but could compete with Apple’s iPhone. In addition, the Surface Duo is a cheaper alternative to the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Still, when comparing the two devices, the Surface Duo feels like the budget device. Prices for the similarly designed Galaxy Z Fold 2 are still unconfirmed.

For now, if the Surface Duo looks interesting to you, pre-ordering is now available. Shipping will commence on September 10, plenty of time to arrive before the Christmas rush. You can read more about the Surface Duo here.
