Tony McGuiness is in definitive flashback mode. The legend has recently re-created the first two episodes of Above & Beyond’s legendary radio show, Trance Around the World (T.A.T.W). Tony, who is one of the trio that consists of A&B, wasn’t done yet! He is taking the stakes a bit higher this time. Earlier today, he has announced that he will be re-creating Above & Beyond’s Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 in 2004.
Rewinding to 2004, Above & Beyond was considerably new to the game and were just beginning to show glimpses of their potential. Noticing this early, Pete Tong enlisted them for a two hour guest mix for his popular radio show on June 6th, 2004. What followed was two hours of blissful trance that went on to win the Essential Mix of the Year for that year. It was listened to again by approximately 60,000 on the Radio 1 website, as Tony recollects.
Come 6pm UK time on 29/04, our clocks would be wound to about 16 years ago. As Tony has been doing it for the last two weeks flawlessly, it’s time to dive into a huge gust of nostalgia again.
