Miami Officials Want Ultra Postponed Due to Coronavirus Fears

The recent outbreak of the coronavirus has already claimed its first festival (Ultra Abu Dhabi). It’s slowly creeping up on Tomorrowland Winter. Today, it’s potentially taking a toll on another major festival: Ultra Music Festival Miami.

According to the Miami Herald, two city officials have called for the postponement of Ultra. Ultra’s organizers are meeting with the city today to discuss the event’s future. On the bright side, Comissioner Joe Carollo emphasizes that Miami does not want to cancel the festival. Instead, they want to postpone it until we have more knowledge of the coronavirus situation. Ultra brings up a particular challenge because the event is set to hold about 55,000 people per day. Apparently, many people have emailed Mayor Francis Suarez urging him to act.

Suarez also mentioned that the city does have the power to cancel the event if UMF does not agree to postpone the festival. The organizers will put out a statement following the meeting today.

After all of the controversy this event has faced, the coronavirus is just another obstacle in its way. Will we see a successful Ultra Music Festival at its rightful home this year or will the coronavirus claim another victim? Stay tuned to find out.
