It may not be a music festival, but it’s a widely-anticipated event in the music industry nonetheless . The 2020 iHeartRadio Music Awards show, scheduled to air on March 29 on Fox, has been indefinitely postponed due to the latest measures against the Coronavirus.
The postponement comes as a direct result of the Shrine Auditorium, where the event was to take place, cancelling all events until at least March 31. Earlier this week, government officials in California have discouraged public gatherings of more than 250 people. It may be an inconvenience, but as usual, safety and health comes first. Refunds will also be issued to ticketed guests. As of yesterday, health officials recommended that people no longer gather in groups of more than 10.
“Voting will nonetheless continue for the eight fan-voted categories until the end of the voting period,” reads the official statement, so don’t forget to cast your votes for your favorite artists!
The Ceremony
The ceremony, if it had taken place, would have featured Usher as the evening’s host, with artists including Justin Bieber and Lizzo, among others, performing live. Meanwhile, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande had all received multiple nominations.
As expected, iHeartMedia has not been the only one deeply affected by the global pandemic. Other industry giants such as Live Nation had also seen its market value get slashed. Its stock (NYSE: LYV) is now trading at the $32 level, down from $76 just a month ago.
