In a new interview from yesterday, the Belgian Interior Minister, Pieter De Crem said that all summer festivals will most likely be postponed due to Coronavirus spread.
“The indications are showing that it will be unavoidable, but no decision has been made yet“
Pieter De Crem – VTM Interview
According to the minister, the peak of the spread is expected on the first week of Easter holidays. A new National Security Council will be taking place on Friday 27. It is expected that the current confinement ending on April 5 will be extended.
The minister argues that even after the spread curve has been flattened, experts think that the virus will still be around. Big scale events therefore represent a possible contamination cluster. It is the case for summer festivals: “We need to give better clarity with the government. But according to the information we have, I think that there is a certain probability that they will have to be postponed” says Pieter De Crem.
You probably guessed that such a decision will be impacting major Belgian festivals such as Tomorrowland. Not only that, but this can also influence the whole European festival season. As a result, this could push other European governments and events to make the same move.
