Fresh off the announcement that Spotify is hosting an awards show, Apple Music has some news too. Much like following behind in total users streaming, Apple Music follows right behind in announcing their own awards show. The event will be streamed on December 4th at 6:30 p.m. PST.
Apple will be hosting the festivities at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, CA, the home of Apple. Notably, the awards show will be honoring achievements in music across five different categories. For selecting winners, Apple is taking into account both the editorial perspective and what customers are loving most.
Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content is very excited about the event:
“The Apple Music Awards are designed to recognize the passion, energy and creativity of the world’s favorite artists. The musically diverse group of inaugural winners have sparked deep social conversation, influenced culture and inspired our customers around the world. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate them.”
Some of the awards announced include:
- Artist of the Year: Billie Eilish
- Breakthrough Artist of the Year: Lizzo
- Song of the Year: “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X
All in all, Apple Music is continuing to grow. This announcement is only one example of both how much Apple Music is growing, and how popular it has become. Tune in on December 4th to check out the first ever Apple Music Awards!
