Any Star Wars fans out there? If so, we have the perfect Star Wars-themed music festival that you need to add to your bucket list. If you really are a die-hard fan, we expect you’ve already heard about the festival—but for the rest of us, here are the details. Recently, Forbes reported on the Tunisia-based festival, interviewing one of their co-founders, Matthieu Corosine.
Les Dunes Electroniques is the official name of the event, put on by organizer Panda Events. The South African festival made its first appearance in 2014, but was put on hold for three years due to the country’s political unrest. Fortunately, the festival made a comeback this year and organizers are already planning for 2020! The festival location is based on the fictional world of Mos Espa, the home of Luke Skywalker in the film.
“In terms of production, you have to build everything from scratch and think about every single detail because there’s no second chance in the desert.”
Located 7 miles away from the capital, the festival grounds are indeed in the middle of the desert. Though far from civilization, attendees are in a magical environment, standing where Star Wars was actually filmed! Organizers are then faced with more obstacles, similar to what the Star Wars film crew had. Isolated in the desert, there is no power, water, or food supply within sight. Everything must be carefully planned and brought in as there are no second chances.
While this year’s event already occurred, be sure to mark your calendars for next year. Co-founder Matthieu Corosine claims the festival may include camping and extended hours in future editions.
