Dillon Francis Drops New EP: Magic Is Real (Part 1)

The self-proclaimed ‘professional play button pusher’ strikes again. Dillon Francis has just released his latest EP ‘Magic Is Real (Part 1)‘.

Francis made social media waves when he let his Facebook followers decide on the cover for the EP. Of the four proposed, he has gone for an eclectic image of a white unicorn, with a rainbow coming out of its bottom. Something that would seem strange for any other artist but Francis. Even when it comes to the music, the 12-minute and four-track EP personifies vintage Dillon.

‘GO OFF‘ is potentially the more commercial-friendly of the four. It was released earlier this summer and was accompanied by a colorful clip, to say the least. It matches well with the overall vibe of the track and has already racked up 600 thousand views.

A week ago, Francis also released the clip for the next track. ‘Bawdy‘ is a return to the familiar Dillon Francis moombahton, with a trappy breakdown midway through. Featuring TV Noise and Big Freedia (who delivers a phat verse in the middle), the energetic percussions bring rhythm and hype all along.

With Bunji Garlin as the vocalist, ‘Bomboclat‘ blends riddim with elements of powerful bass. Do not be fooled by the slower BPM: the buildup and subsequent drop are guaranteed to shake the foundations of any club or stage.

Finally, ‘Still Not Butter‘ offers harder sounds and a faster beat. Firmly on the more electro side of things, it shows the more somber side of Dillon Francis.

As per usual, Dillon Francis’ music fills the airwaves with childish absurdity and imaginative irony. This EP also proves as an opportunity to condense what is the essence of Dillon’s music. All four tracks touch upon the different facets of the American DJ’s style. Too often do we reduce artists to a single genre by labeling and categorizing them.

Magic Is Real (Part 1) is the epitome of contemporary EDM: different yet consistent. Despite featuring elements from several genres, they remain unmistakably Dillon’s.
