With Ultra Europe coming up in a couple of weeks and a heated debacle over the venue, things are really stirring now. An official soccer rematch is going to take place on Thursday, July 18 at Poljud Stadium.
An official announcement of the match was posted, where the Maltese Griez play the championship preliminaries against the Gzira United FC. What does this mean for Ultra? It means that with its dates from July 12-14, Ultra Europe is certainly not taking place in its usual home this year.
Unofficial rumors of the festival’s move just last week circulated without comment from the festival. Now, rumors fly about it moving to the Youth Park. This is a stadium used by RNK Split and ASK Split Sports Athletic Club.
Reportedly, this spat was sparked by Ultra Europe messing up the stadium grass each year at a cost to the stadium and extra time needed to repair it. With Ultra organizers not being able to sign an agreement for Poljud Stadium, it is time to go.
There has been no official statement from Ultra regarding this move. However, by the looks of Hadjuk and Split’s professional football team, that decision has been made for them. Wanting to avoid paying millions for a new field after each event may just encourage the move as well.
