Soundcloud has been in and out of the news as of late. They’ve added the ability to share music straight to Instagram stories, and also expanded its user monetization program. They have even become the first streaming service to integrate with Serato. In years prior, there were often talks of it possibly going bankrupt, but luckily it survived.
One of the individuals we can thank for that is one of its co-founders Eric Wahlforss. Having worked at the company since its inception in 2007, he has helped grow the company into the streaming giant that it is today. It was recently announced that Wahlforss would be stepping down as the company’s Chief Product Officer. This will take effect as of March of this year.
While announcing his decision, he went on the record as saying:
“I have come to the realisation that now is the right time for me to take a break, reflect and think about what to create next,”
He continued this with:
“This was not an easy decision to make, but one of the biggest reasons why I feel I have made the right decision is that the company is in such capable hands.
It’s been a pleasure working with Kerry [Trainor, the company’s CEO] and the new leadership team over the past 18 months.
Our team is stronger than ever, and we have very exciting plans slated for 2019.”
The Future
Soundcloud was originally created in 2007 by Alexander Ljung and Eric Wahlforss. After the turmoil the company faced in 2017, Co-founder Alexander Ljung stepped down to make room for current CEO Kerry Trainor.
Although Wahlforss’ has decided to step down, he will remain with the company in an advisory role. It will definitely be interesting to see what direction Soundcloud will go in without both of its founders in the upcoming months. Stay tuned for more information.
