Beats by Dre Goes NBA
This week it was announced that the Apple owned Beats by Dre are now the official headphones of the NBA, this deal is for multiple years and includes an all encompassing marketing and merchandising partnership for the NBA and all its affiliates (WNBA, USA Basketball, and G League). The idea is that Beats by Dre will add an array of audio equipment and class to the league, looking to put numerous side deals in place with individual NBA teams and of course individual players. Beats already has an extensive list of players sponsored such as LeBron James, Draymond Green, James Harden and more.
This is Beats first official partnership with an entire sports league and will without a doubt open many doors for Apple as a whole. We don’t know the monetary details of the deal but we can only imagine it was a hefty sum of money given the NBA earns over $1 billion a year according to an IEG Sponsorship Report.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated:
“Through our partnership, we have an exciting opportunity to merge sports, pop culture, and technology to deliver unparalleled experiences and premium products to our fans.”
Beats by Dre president Luke Wood also added:
“The NBA and its players have long been significant drivers of global culture. Basketball, music, and style speak as one voice: Julius Erving became a style icon, Allen Iverson cemented hip hop’s place on and off the court and LeBron James is regularly breaking new music… the list goes on and on. This partnership with the NBA is the perfect alignment for Beats. It feels like coming home.”
