Marshmello & Bastille – Happier
Earlier this week everyone’s favorite Marshmello took to Twitter to tease a collaboration with the London based Bastille. Bastille followed this up with a post of his own to Instagram earlier shortly after. Turns out that the track in question is the much-anticipated ‘Happier’ which was written last year. In Bastille’s own words, the group
“had a lot of fun getting to work on it with Marshmello who managed to find some joy in the melancholy…”
Upon listening to the track, its easy to see where they are coming from.
The track kicks off with Bastille singing out the following:
“Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been thinking
I want you to be happier, I want you to be happier..”
which leads us to easily pick up on the bittersweet feelings of leaving a loved one they are trying to convey. The track continues on and the chorus consists of
“…I want to change my mind
‘Cause this just don’t feel right to me
I want to raise your spirits
I want to see you smile but
Know that means I’ll have to leave”
From these lines we can see that the track is without a doubt full of gloom, and sorrow, however this is where Marshmello’s magic comes in to play.
Using his signature sounds, Marshmello once again is able to take this sad song and completely flip the vibe, giving us something happy and danceable. ‘Happier’ is less ‘Wolves‘ with Selena Gomez, and more ‘Silence‘ with Khalid. Whether you’re part of the Mellogang, or not, I can almost guarantee that you’re gonna love this track. ‘Happier’ with Bastille is out now, and can be streamed below.
