Avicii Wins Best Dance Video VMA
The MTV Video Music Awards, or VMA‘s for short, are one of Music’s less noticed award shows. You probably didn’t even realize it was still going on, but every year the award show takes place in different locations. 2017’s was held at ‘The Forum‘ in Inglewood, California, and was hosted by Katy Perry. This year, the award show is taking place in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall. It is surprisingly being held without a host.
This year the late Avicii went up for awards twice. Both of these were for his track ‘Lonely Together‘ with Rita Ora. One award was for ‘Best Dance Video’, while the second was for ‘Best Visual Effects’. It was announced that Lonely Together won the award for Best Dance Video. In doing so, it beat out:
- Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa – “One Kiss”
- The Chainsmokers – “Everybody Hates Me”
- David Guetta & Sia – “Flames”
- Marshmello – “Silence” [ft. Khalid]
- Zedd & Liam Payne – “Get Low (Street Video)”
The video was directed by Avicii’s longtime collaborator Levan Tsikurishvili, who also shot the 2017 documentary ‘Avicii: True Stories’.
